MIMM: Life of a Carnie #diyhashtagproject

My friend Alex started this Instagram account @diyhastagproject and the hashtag #diyhashtagproject, and I’ve just been having fun making up hashtags.

I can’t believe it’s already August and that the good ol’ fair is almost over. For those of you who didn’t realize it, I work at the fair during the summer and it’s actually a blast sometimes.

For 23 days of the fair, I work strange hours and do things like order ribbons, check in 250 cupcake entries, and walk around a lot.

Here are some scenes from my summer life:

#FlexibleFriday at The Yoga Mat

A giant almond butter cup I’ve been working on for the last few days from Blackmarket Bakery

Kristen (below), Allison & their significant others came to visit. We went the rodeo, drank some beers, & karaoked – we attempted “Pretty Woman.”

Kristen got this bacon with a mustache.

In the morning, I headed to the Anaheim Packing District for #SaturdaySizzle

Yoga was taught by my favorite The Yoga Mat. #SweatySaturday

I stayed for boot camp led by My Fit Life, and I won a visor (and headband) from Lorna Jane! #SwagSaturday

White cucumber roll #SushiSaturday lunch at Maru Sushi

I had the night shift. Christy & I were shocked by Evan’s kitchen cleaning and decided to give all the guys awards.

Chris is great at #SweepItSaturday

…and I stayed up late. #ShockedSunday when I found out this guy I had a crush on in 2008 married this chick. Um, you could’ve had me. Just sayin’.

Someone did ask me if I had a boyfriend, in a non-creepy way, and I said no. Well, this article speaks the truth: I’m just too darn smart. Okay, I’m just too crazy. πŸ™‚

I stopped by Sidecar for a doughnut. #SmoresSunday #SidecarSunday

Coffee was necessary too. #StumptownSunday

After hearing about it from Whitney of To Live & Diet in L.A., I was ecstatic to find black bean spaghetti.

#SpaghettiSunday with Trader Joe’s marinara & some feta for lunch.

#SundaySupper was Kodiak Cakes with a choice of bananas, blueberries, whipped cream, Nutella, & cookie butter!

Chris made his own, I made Cade a little of each, & Eric wanted plain but I decorated it. πŸ™‚

Eddie & I are the night supervisors… seriously. Come get information! #SupervisorSunday

What’s the craziest or most interesting job you’ve ever had?

Five Things Friday & Yelp’s Holiday Market

 photo FFaves_zps6c1a013e.png

At the beginning of the month, I made this December to Remember list.

I built a gingerbread house, sent my holiday cards, watched tons of heart-warming Christmas movies, am still attempting to read a book, applied for 8 jobs, and finally, decided who to buy that one gift for. *I bought other smaller gifts.

This person deserves it. She has supported me every [week]day for 3 years! I hope to become as amazing as her. I love you too mom, but this is for my work BFF!

Five things to do over winter break

Spend tonight and tomorrow in San Diego!

Seeing Christmas lights FINALLY.

…and FINALLY seeing the Bodies Exhibition!

Try local Better Booch kombucha – I got “Apple Ginger Rogers.”

I took a shot, called, and they picked up at solita, sister of one of my favorite restaurants Sol. They only took reservations this past week but officially opens on Monday! You bet I’ll be there!

Five things I did this week

Go to my first Yelp event, Nifty Under $50! Hosted in the hipster neighborhood of Silver Lake in L.A.

Watched the first 45 minutes of “Aladdin” in Spanish 4 times in a row. The songs are so good though and makes me want to dance!

I haven’t listened to much good hip hop in a long time and didn’t know that Bone-Thugs did the equivalent of the NSYNC reunion.

Speaking of that, I love “Counting Stars” by One Republic.

And we will sure be sick of this soon, but I like it right now. I imagined that this would be the scene of the video by listening to it…

Five foods/drinks this week

I found a delicious-sounding flavor of High Country kombucha. The brand is more potent than GT’s.

Janetha mentioned these awhile ago. My cousin got some cinnamon-y pecans at Target, but I couldn’t find them so I got these.

It was far too dark to take pictures inside, but I had a margarita delgada & an AMAZING beer battered shrimp taco for $10 at Malos Cantina in Silver Lake. Love happy hours!

Tried the “best donuts in Los Angeles” from The Donut Snob. They look perfect! Sidecar is still better, a lot better.

I’ve never tried Firestone beer! They’re a California-based company and I loved their blonde ale.

Five links

I’m working on “rebel dieting.” The wordΒ diet is just what I eat.

This post will make 2014 better and change your life! I’ve already started tying my floss and charging my battery on airplane mode.

Cool, historical college towns are the best. I went to one of these schools. Hint: it’s in the South and it’s hippie. (It’s Asheville, NC.)

I want a 7 year pen! Is this really possible though?

Who doesn’t love Ellen? Here are 11 things we can learn from her.

What have you tried or done this week?
Did you listen to 90s hip hop?

WIAW: Everyday is the same

Today’s a shorter day. I picked up an extra hour, but it’s during break. I picked up a class yesterday and it was a first! I worked with students with severe disabilities and was pretty scared!

So my last week has looked like this…

6:45 A.M. Breakfast at my desk: coconut flour mug cake with Greek yogurt “frosting.” 0 period starts early at 7 – they meet everyday though so class is less than an hour.

10:15 A.M. Favorite Quest Bar flavor! I always get hungry because I eat so early.

12:25 P.M. Clearance spicy ketchup over greens, avocado, and a turkey burger with my co-workers even though I don’t have to stay.

3 P.M. Some cheese, some tortilla chips, some chocolate when I get home.

7:30 P.M. Post-nap & workout dinner smoothie: strawberries, frozen mango, greens, Sunwarrior vanilla, and almond milk.

10 P.M. Relaxing with wine, popcorn, and “Some Girls.” Hoping it’s good…

Let’s not forget little spoonfuls of this…

Some purchases/eats to come this week:

My inner hippie gets unleashed at Mother’s Market. I’ve gone to several of their locations and can spend hours there! My favorite location is the one in Santa Ana – it’s huge, has a hot food bar, cold food bar, juice bar, pizza, DIY sandwiches and burritos, etcetera.

Wild Friends [new?] sesame cranberry
Reed’s cabarnet grape kombucha
The Bu, a Ventura-based company, has melon?!
I can’t resist a deal, especially with a $1 off coupon!
How many hours do you go before getting hungry?
Any new finds or tried any of these items?
