Decorating the Classroom & Six Places

1. This is the first time using my CrockPot. I put in ground turkey and sirloin, tomato basil soup, fresh tomatoes, broth, feta, and a bit of mung bean pasta.

2. I had a turkey corn dog (from Trader Joe’s) and it was so good.

3. Christy & Eddie came with me to lunch (Taco Mesa for a salmon taco) and helped me with my bulletin boards.

4. I bought actual bulletin paper at Hobby Lobby. Yay for 40% off! However, they don’t have as much in crafts.

5. I can spend almost 2 hours at Michaels’ especially their clearance section!

Perfect considering last week’s Marvel movie marathon

Cheap frames ($1 each) + cards = turn in folder signs

6 places that have meaning to me

1. Asheville, NC I spent 6 years in this little Southern hippie town. I grew into my own person here, figured out what I wanted to do with my life and who I wanted to be, and met some great people… like my roommate Yancey.

A couple of random ones

I pretty much look like this now, but I liked my hair then.

2. Atlanta, GA The history, the Southern hospitality, and yet still forward-thinking of this city makes it one of my favorites. I took several trips here with friends, chaperoned students on a college visit, and then visited my friend in Athens, a wonderful college town outside of Atlanta.

3. Outer Banks, NC The best beaches, and that’s coming from a Californian. It’s exactly how Nicholas Sparks describes it, beautiful and quiet and surreal. I was going to go back this September but I have to work.

4. Salt Lake City, UT I’ve come here twice and made great friends with other bloggers. I loved the inspiration of being with so many like-minded, healthy, and successful women.

5. San Francisco, CA Once I visited, it dethroned Atlanta as my favorite city. I stayed in Berkeley on my trip but went to SF daily. There were so many parts of the city to explore and I loved the yoga and hippie lifestyle.

6. Orange County, CA I grew up here, and it may be a tad materialistic, but I love the parts of it that aren’t. Living here for the second time, I’ve discovered a world I was not privy to as a kid. Good thing for cars!

6 places I yearn to visit

1. Boulder, CO I cannot wait to come here for Blend 2015! So many great people live here and post fantastic photos. Plus, my dear Evan goes to school there!

2. Portland, OR My co-worker Kim told me this is where I would find my bearded, flannel-wearing brunette hippie man.

3. The rest of California However, Lysa says the guys in Portland are too granola and I should try Fresno where they are bearded, flannel-wearing brunette farmers.

I’ve only been to San Francisco and skipped the other parts of California. I want to see Napa, hike the gorgeous places, and lounge on surreal beaches.

4. England I took several history courses in college on England. I was a downright Anglophile.

I’m super jealous that my friend Christy will see Hyde Park (you should) and all the amazing architecture and history. Christy, take lots of photos and bring me back things!

5. Spain My friends have all visited and shared their experiences. While you should pretend you’re Canadian when you go to England, the Spanish are more accepting of us Americans from what I hear. I would love to stay up late, sleep in, and just enjoy life. I hear Greece is relaxing too!

6. Toronto/Montreal I’ve read too many travel magazines. It sounds like Europe but closer.

It’s time to turn in!

Treat Yourself Tuesday: The Best Wedding Ever!

Only 6 more wake ups till I’m done with school (AKA work) and 10 more until Salt Lake City/Park City. Although I am totally regretting not making a stop in Colorado now because all the cool people live or are from there. See explanation below. ๐Ÿ™‚

This weekend was particularly special. My cousin got married, and it’s definitely a treat! Vic is my first cousin on my dad’s side to get married and I’m much closer to my dad’s side, partly because we’re all around the same age – Vic is in his early 30s.

The wedding reception was at the DoubleTree Hotel. I helped pass out the seating to 400 people. It was a tough job because it wasn’t organized yet and translating names to English made it confusing.

My family put my full name.

They had a custom logo.

They arrived with some Chinese lion dancers.

The details were MARVELOUS and perfect.

Drunken cake toppers were so appropriate for them! The cake is from King’s Hawaiian. I had so much fun I forgot to eat it!

We won the centerpiece.

There are no pictures of the “treats” unfortunately…

First off, there was an open bar (2 glasses of wine, shots of Johnnie Walker whisky, a couple of rum & Diet Cokes) and a table that told us about 4xs that they were the “Bachelor Table.” ๐Ÿ™‚

I definitely fell in love with a very cute [Irish] guy [from Colorado] who wasn’t drinking much like everyone else and he’s my cousin’s friend so he’s not sketchy nor does he look it anyways.ย There was a parting goodbye kiss and… he has my number and regardless of if he calls or not, I can say there are plenty o’ good looking fish in the sea that I can catch. ๐Ÿ™‚ย

Aside from that excitement, I reconnected with family members and danced so much I was dripping in sweat and woke up the next morning with nappy hair.

A few of the cousins, and I found a seashell bra!

My table. I wasn’t ready. Haha.

I ended up staying on my aunt’s couch in their hotel room. One of the bachelors walked me to the room but you know, I was already in love (see above).

More to come as they release pictures… I didn’t have much of a chance because it was dark and I was having tooooo much fun.

*Oh yeah, I was telling my BFF’s girlfriend and her reaction was You have such a fun single life. Little does she really know.

**This week’s agenda:

Five Friday Favorites: Falling in love with music & BJ Penn

5 things that make me happy

1. My last hurrah as a sub is with a group of students I fell in love with. Surprisingly, it’s not my favorite school site – it looks like a prison – but it kind of is now because I love these students!

2. The last few episodes of “Breaking Bad” is on Netflix!

3. “Scandal” is back and I forgot (last night) – I’ll treat myself to it today! I’ll probably have to re-watch some episodes to remember what happened last!

4.ย  A guy offered to help me move the couch even though he lives 30+ minutes away, but I really needed a truck for the task and he doesn’t have one. However, my best friend Peter’s dad’s truck was actually dead! He ended up coming anyways to load the couch in my car (a Honda Element) after I sent him this. ๐Ÿ™‚

*I meant it when I said his workout was more important, but he thought I was being sarcastic.

5. Said guy from above (not Peter) also looks like the MMA fighter BJ Penn. Thanks Yancey for pointing that out. I’ll take it. Always thought I’d end up with an islander, except said guy is not an islander…

5 songs, because I’ve become obsessed with songs lately?

1. Donald Glover, or “Childish Gambino” sings “Heartbreak.” Yancey thought his rap songs would be parodies but they’re not.

2. I only found out that he rapped because I heard Jhene on Spotify. Do you remember her from early 2000s B2K songs?

3. Jheneย and Lil’ Wayne are featured on Big Sean’s song “Beware.”

4. One of 15 feel-good songs from the last 10 years:

5. My personality doppelganger sings a song:

5 things I’m looking forward to in the next week

1. Finishing up this last class!

2. My paycheck today!

3. An invitation to lunch at Luna Grill, a Mediterranean & Middle Eastern restaurant, on Sunday. They must’ve heard Mediterranean is my favorite. Wait, that and sushi, but I’m limited on sushi choices.

4. The opening of Eureka! because I love food and beer.

5. Trying Guava Cream Ale beer at Valiant Brewing’s 1st anniversary!

Eating Disorder Awareness & Recovery: As the sun rises, the darkness fades. Sometimes I don’t know if it’s over either, but I just “live in the moment.”

A long one, but a good one: When does healthy living become a diet?

ED’s are not one size. It’s not uncommon to be uncommon in ED.

Wearable fitness trackers: Are they creating a new addiction? I don’t own one and that surprises even me. I wanted one, but I don’t need one. I already take my fitness and eating game too seriously. I don’t need it as motivation. My friend has one and will get obsessed over walking enough. Yes, she will walk more, but do I really need another thing? I remember when I wanted to buy a heart rate monitor – would that really be a big deal in my overall fitness? Probably not for me.

And then there’s this: For those with orthorexia, diet can never be ‘pure’ enough.
