The Need for Comfort [Food]

It’s Friday night/Saturday morning and I wanted to update ASAP.

The Donut Bar opened up not too long ago in my hometown. I drive by everyday and decided to pick up the Samoa donut. I mean, how can it be bad? Well, it was bad. It’s a baked donut, hard, and the toppings were glued on it. This is my third time trying the Donut Bar and I really need to stop trying. When I took it out of the box, it was a brick and just looked gross. Thank goodness my student loves coconut and eats anything.

Now Sidecar Doughnut does a Samoa right. They didn’t have it, but they had two amazing doughnuts: I had to restrain myself and only took a bite of each!

The school finally called me back on Friday. Maybe they meant this Friday not last Friday?! No, they actually had a tough time choosing between me and another candidate. Well, they didn’t go for me and that’s okay. Had you told me Tuesday, I would’ve had a meltdown. I realized that…

  • I actually don’t have my credential yet… only a few more weeks.
  • This was only my FIRST interview this year!
  • I got to the final round!
  • This is my second time being SECOND. Last year, I went to the final round as well.
  • I got experience interviewing in front of a panel and doing a demo lesson plan.
  • I had no connections to this district – this means I have hope outside of our district!
  • Speaking of that, our district has quite a few openings coming up.
  • There are still lots of jobs in the area.

So while I was sad, I am also hopeful. I even gave them a call back and they told me to apply again when there’s something else available.

I packed a [canned] tuna salad for lunch, but I stopped by Mother’s Market for some comforting vegan mac and cheese (plus I posted some recipes yesterday and was craving it!). I ate the tuna salad for dinner.

I’ve stayed up late this week so I needed a nap to clear my head. Naps everyday…

My friend Alison told me about the flamingo and tiki decor at the Dollar Tree. I picked up this seashell bra. It’s not comfortable, but it’s fun!

Perks of having itty bitties. πŸ™‚ Body image post coming soon…

I finished up with some homework, watched more of the “The Game,” and readied my nails for my cousin’s wedding tomorrow.

MIMM: Retro Weekend

Another weekend and I didn’t do homework. Um, it’s not due till the 19th and I have spring break that week. πŸ™‚ Another reason I dislike online classes… I don’t do well with rolling deadlines. Most of it is uploading things I’ve already done though.

Let’s talk about what MARVELOUS things I did instead.

The giant Costco plastic wrap container is an eyesore so I wrapped it with liner. Much better.

I ran out of food at the end of the week. I got out early on Friday and was starving. I shared this pineapple and chicken pizza from Kech Cafe (it’s in a gas station!) with my cousins.

I made a stop by Target and spotted the Young House Love collection! I want their MARVELOUS book!

My MARVELOUS Friday night involved wine and Joy.

I ended up baking A Beautiful Mess’ matcha green tea donuts. They weren’t bad, much better in shape than the strawberry donuts I made.

On Saturday morning, I went thrifting in Long Beach. Retro Row on 4th Street is one of the most MARVELOUS destinations, reminds me of Asheville (my home of 6 years!). I didn’t end up with anything, most of it was too expensive.

Cat dresses?!

While Retro Row has some good restaurants, I wanted to try Samurai Burrito back home. The Geisha roll has crab mix instead of rice, salmon, cukes, and green onions and was MARVELOUS!

Sunday, I went to one Home Depot twice, which I don’t mind because they have some good looking employees. πŸ™‚

I also went to three other Home Depots as well as a Lowe’s. They’re all closeby, but I was in search of succulents and cacti for the house.

My first attempt resulted in two minis and a small cacti. The minis looked so small on the mantel so I returned them.

Looks like everyone else was buying them because I couldn’t find another one till my last stop at Lowe’s! Here’s the mantel and fireplace. I need to string some lights on the “JOY” or make something more seasonally appropriate. The TV is going on above.

For lunch, I had another Geisha roll.

Snack break: new-to-me Three Happy Cows caramel yogurt.

Dinner: grilled cheese on top of my brand new placement from Ikea.

In the middle of moving, I found this MARVELOUS handmade dress. A friend gave it to me: old tank with a bottom made from old curtains!

I love it and want more vintage-y clothes!

Five Things Friday & Yelp’s Holiday Market

At the beginning of the month, I made this December to Remember list.

I built a gingerbread house, sent my holiday cards, watched tons of heart-warming Christmas movies, am still attempting to read a book, applied for 8 jobs, and finally, decided who to buy that one gift for. *I bought other smaller gifts.

This person deserves it. She has supported me every [week]day for 3 years! I hope to become as amazing as her. I love you too mom, but this is for my work BFF!

Five things to do over winter break

Spend tonight and tomorrow in San Diego!

Seeing Christmas lights FINALLY.

…and FINALLY seeing the Bodies Exhibition!

Try local Better Booch kombucha – I got “Apple Ginger Rogers.”

I took a shot, called, and they picked up at solita, sister of one of my favorite restaurants Sol. They only took reservations this past week but officially opens on Monday! You bet I’ll be there!

Five things I did this week

Go to my first Yelp event, Nifty Under $50! Hosted in the hipster neighborhood of Silver Lake in L.A.

Watched the first 45 minutes of “Aladdin” in Spanish 4 times in a row. The songs are so good though and makes me want to dance!

I haven’t listened to much good hip hop in a long time and didn’t know that Bone-Thugs did the equivalent of the NSYNC reunion.

Speaking of that, I love “Counting Stars” by One Republic.

And we will sure be sick of this soon, but I like it right now. I imagined that this would be the scene of the video by listening to it…

Five foods/drinks this week

I found a delicious-sounding flavor of High Country kombucha. The brand is more potent than GT’s.

Janetha mentioned these awhile ago. My cousin got some cinnamon-y pecans at Target, but I couldn’t find them so I got these.

It was far too dark to take pictures inside, but I had a margarita delgada & an AMAZING beer battered shrimp taco for $10 at Malos Cantina in Silver Lake. Love happy hours!

Tried the “best donuts in Los Angeles” from The Donut Snob. They look perfect! Sidecar is still better, a lot better.

I’ve never tried Firestone beer! They’re a California-based company and I loved their blonde ale.

I’m working on “rebel dieting.” The wordΒ diet is just what I eat.

This post will make 2014 better and change your life! I’ve already started tying my floss and charging my battery on airplane mode.

Cool, historical college towns are the best. I went to one of these schools. Hint: it’s in the South and it’s hippie. (It’s Asheville, NC.)

I want a 7 year pen! Is this really possible though?
