Five Things Friday: No more school, no more work (for now)

5 things from my day yesterday

Packing for 12 hours out, and I still didn’t have enough food… I ended up going to Samurai Burrito for a Geisha roll again. ๐Ÿ™‚

I also stocked up on some Quest Nutrition bars. Quest is a sponsor of BLEND this year!

I took a nap at my cousin’s for an hour before returning to school to judge the super cool World’s Fair. 400 students representing 47 countries with food, dancing, maps, history, inventions, travel brochures, etc.

…and I still came home for a workout because I needed it.

Then I sent some texts [for weekend plans] and made some friend requests because did I tell you they hired a cute guy at work a month or two ago? ๐Ÿ™‚ You can say it… “Oh Julie, you’re silly.”

And I still haven’t learned to sleep early.

5 workouts

Whew, another good kettlebell tabata from Blonde Ponytail.

Found this Summer Fitness Circuit – perfect for my love of kettlebells.

I hate jump roping, but I used it as my cardio for Fitnessista’s HIIT Scorcher.

Blonde Ponytail’s Push-Pull Kettlebell Workout after a 12 hour day at work on 5 hours of sleep.

Today’s will probably be PB Fingers’ 20 minute Boot Camp Workout to change things up a bit – I love kettlebells too much!

Thinking Out Loud Thursday: Staycation & a Realization

This week is packed! I’ll be at school until 7 or 8 today because I volunteered for the World’s Fair. I did it last year and loved it!

Today marks the second to last day of student teaching. Super excited.

Tuesday was magical. My friend was in town so we met up in Downtown Huntington Beach. Had I seen this article beforehand, I would’ve been more prepared for all the happy hours.

It made for a great excuse for a staycation at the 4-star Shorebreak Hotel for super cheap.

Complimentary wine hour from 5-6 P.M.

I brought some beers from the leftover Cinco de Mayo party and a bottle from The Bruery.

I headed their rooftop restaurant, Zimzala, for happy hour.

We then spent the evening enjoying the Tuesday night street fair, guacamole and margaritas, and a super greasy grilled cheese or the parts of it I could stomach.

Oh and I made a friend while downtown who I’m hanging out with on Sunday maybe. ๐Ÿ™‚

I also DID NOT see any of my students! ๐Ÿ™‚

I was able to head to work down the street right afterwards. My stomach was definitely hurting from the drinks and greasy grilled cheese.

The remedy: a nap and a workout. I did Fitnessista’s HIIT Scorcher with some jump roping, which I hate but am getting better at, and then ended with about 15 minutes of yoga stretch.

Real food: Shirataki noodles with chicken and veggies in tomato sauce.

Reflecting on Tuesday’s events and then seeing this post from a friend was an eye opener. Kind of. It was more of a firm kick in the butt.

Lately, I’ve met a lot of people guys. I’m not sure if this is the right forum to even talk about it, but here goes my Thinking Out Loud Thursday rant.

I’ve also been seeing someone for 6 weeks and if you know me in person, you’d know I’ve never dated anyone for very long (6 months max). Even at the rate of seeing this guy once per week for 6 weeks, I’m sick of him already. Yikes. I don’t always get sick of people so quickly either, but there are some quirks that bug me.

I know this is terrible to say as well, but there are people that I meet that I can say look like a relationship type of person. I’ve never dated anyone like that. Let’s be raw, I date what my former roommate and friends have called “gangster white guys.” They’re too ghetto for me and I know it. This is the situation right now… again.

My tastes are changing and what I liked in my early twenties isn’t the same anymore. I like them articulate, witty, and have close friends and family. So far, lately, 3 of the 4 people I meet fit the bill, but I’m seeing that one guy who doesn’t. That’s changing and by that I mean, peace out. Now I just have to end it.

WIAW: 2014 Spring Patchwork Festival Long Beach

The Patchwork Festival is one of the events I look forward to every year, and I’m lucky enough to be close to two locations. So I actually get to go to 4 each year (one on the spring and one in the fall). This weekend’s festival was in Long Beach.

The venue is gorgeous, right by all the ritzy homes that don’t all look alike. The streets are tree lined, there’s a park nearby, and it all overlooks the water.

Breakfast: Front Porch Pops‘ mojito popsicle and Brown Box Bakery’s gluten free horchata cupcake.

One vendor had all things panda.

Best cut outs ever!

I ended up buying a couple of posters: The Poster List & Maiden Voyage.

Afterwards, I headed to Starling Diner. I didn’t eat much at the wedding the night before because I was having too much fun so I was starving!ย

MARVELOUS retro decor

Reminds me of the diners in Asheville ๐Ÿ™‚

Supposedly the best scone around, and it was quite MARVELOUS!

MARVELOUS slow roasted pork scramble made with egg whites

I jetted down to Laguna Beach afterwards.

I met up with this boy band of Denton, Daniel, and Andrew. I look like I had a fantastic night. ๐Ÿ™‚

Since I also missed the wedding cake on Saturday, which was apparently from King’s Hawaiian – the people who make the famous Hawaiian rolls, I stopped by Sweet & Saucy Shop on the way home for a mini candy bar cupcake and mini lemon cupcake.
